Stephen Hodapp

Stephen A. Hodapp

June 6, 1950 — September 28, 2006

Stephen A. Hodapp, "Steve," was born June 6, 1950 to Florence (Tracy) and Donald Hodapp in Seymour, Indiana. He was the third of five sons with brothers Edward, David, Michael, and Mark still surviving. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church where he completed grade school. He graduated from Seymour High School, served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972, and in 1978 he graduated from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked as an engineer for Delphi Electronics from 1972-2006. He felt he was blessed with the births of his three beautiful daughters, Kristin, Brielle, and Sarah, whom he adored. On April 29, 1995, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kokomo, he married his beloved, Libby, who is the mother of Matthew and Elizabeth. Together they have 12 grandchildren, Corrynn, Jadon, Michael, Isabella, Lily, Ivan, Parker, Bayci, Coley II, Brittany, Makayla and Joseph with their thirteenth grandchild due in October 2007.

Steve was a devoted husband, brother, father, and "papa," with deep blue eyes that touched your soul and a laugh that warmed your heart. His family was the light of his life and he enjoyed them, playing outdoors, "rough housing, " picnics, wiener roasts, hayrides, trick or treating, Halloween parties with his daughters and their friends, which included midnight walks through a nearby cemetery, swinging on the front porch, long walks pulling children in a wagon, pushing a stroller of holding his wife’s hand, Christmas mornings with all the family present, Easter egg hunts, birthday parties complete with a piñata, camping with his daughters, park slides, good books, woodworking, candlelight dinners, singing, a day at the zoo with the grandkids, music, sunsets, fireworks and quiet nights with his wife. Simply put Steve enjoyed "life!"

He was a gentle man, kind, thoughtful, humble, loving, unselfish, humorous, strong willed, believed in second chances, optimistic, quiet, understanding, intuitive, fair, and hard worker, trusting, respectful, a good listener, deeply rooted in his faith, honest, loved laughing, responsible, an advocate of equality, and those of us who knew him feel very blessed to have been a participant in his life.

Steve was a devout Catholic. He and Libby were active members at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where he was instrumental in the implementation of the "Christ Renews His Parish" program, a participant in the ELM program, the Family Life Team and the CRHP continuation committee. He was a devoted attendant at the perpetual chapel and believed in the power of prayer.

Steve, "Dad," "Papa" was the kind of person we all strive to be! His presence, and the impact he has had on our lives, will live on in our hearts and souls forever; for Steve was one of those people who inspires you to do your very best, to believe in yourself, to live up to your God-given potential, one of those rare people who makes you a better human being simply knowing and being a part of their life. On Thursday, September 28, 2006, Stephen A. Hodapp, age 56, departed this world, leaving it behind a little better place to be than when he had entered it.
