What it's like for the family of the donor and for the recipient of an organ - A Story
The Experience
The experience is one filled with intense emotions for both the donor family and the recipient.
At the point when someone becomes an organ donor candidate, the experience is initially exceedingly difficult for the family. Someone is near death, about to be declared brain dead. Organ donation can be a comfort for the family - a glimmer of hope - a way for their loved one's death to have meaning.
For the recipient of the gift of life, it literally means that their life will be saved - it will go on!
Continue on to learn about what actually happens in the organ and tissue donation process.
