Volunteer Training

As an IOPO volunteer, before you begin your volunteer responsibilities, you must complete the required training. This training is designed to assist you in thoroughly understanding all of the information you need to be an effective volunteer.

We have a three tiered approach to training:

  1. Initial Self Study Learning
  2. As a new volunteer waiting for your scheduled group session, we request that you familiarize yourself with all the facts about organ, tissue, and eye donation. We recommend that you take advantage of all of the information available here on this website, in the following order, as part of this familiarization process:

  3. Group Session Learning and Team Building
  4. Once you have completed initial self study learning, you will be ready to attend a group session where you will meet other volunteers and IOPO staff members dedicated to assisting you be the best volunteer you can be. We will get to know you and understand what motivates you and what makes you nervous. Our goal is to match your interests and comfort level with the most appropriate programs.

You are welcome, and encouraged, to review the Volunteer Handbook in advance of your group training session.

At the conclusion of your group training, you will be "certified" as an IOPO volunteer - and you get a bunch of great stuff too!

  5. Mentoring
  6. You may choose to accompany a seasoned volunteer to an educational presentation. IOPO can match you with other volunteers with similar interests and you can work on the buddy system where you participate and watch how the presentation is conducted.
